SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ART

longreach copy.jpg

Artist as activist. This is certainly nothing new. In fact, it may be part of the job description.

Activism manifests in my art in multiple ways:

  • In the studio I bring vision to my views on environmental and social justice. I revere the land, have my hands in the soil every day. My friends are farmers, and farm workers, and lots and lots of gardeners. My family owns land in Maryland, where I have somehow ended up, and my love of the land was born during childhood visits there. We must protect the land - and the waters. I lend my talents frequently to organizations doing this work.

  • I love setting up where marchers gather, meet for the first time, and mingle and talk about the social and legislative agendas that brought them together.  As we hammer and paint, people discover new ways to express themselves and the issues they care deeply about.
